Guided meditation in the workplace

As a fellow meditator and agency world navigator, I know how stressful deadlines and work demands can be. Sound meditation sessions in the workplace or office are a unique way of bringing teams together and allow for deeper connection, increased focus, and emotional self-regulation – all factors that undoubtedly increase employee mental, emotional, and physical wellness.

Meditation music and sounds created by various healing instruments such as crystal singing bowls, gongs, drums, and chimes help brain wave activity slow down to help participants drop into a deep state of relaxation, such as when entering delta and theta brain wave states, which are the slower known types of brain waves in humans.

Typically ranging from 45-60 minutes in duration, sound bath meditation is a much more accessible form of meditation given that anyone can enjoy its benefits regardless of ability, skill, or experience. During a sound meditation session, participants are guided into a deeply relaxed state, while sitting or lying down, via gentle breathing and various mindfulness exercises to prepare the body and mind to receive sound.

Meditation is a powerful tool that has become a staple for many companies, including Google. IBISWorld estimates meditation training to continue expanding rapidly in the United States alone. Why? Companies like Google understand that mental health is directly tied to overall physical and emotional health and well-being. As a result, mindfulness trainings and classes in the office are increasing exponentially.

Some of the known benefits of meditation in the workplace include:

  • Increased focus and problem-solving

  • Reduction of stress

  • Decrease feelings of anxiety and restlessness

  • Improve productivity

  • General well-being and satisfaction in the workplace (reduced turnover)
